Recognizing return of spontaneous circulation means you shift from doing continuous chest compressions to stabilizing the patient and preparing for post-arrest care. When ROSC is observed, you should stop chest compressions and focus on confirming stability by monitoring breathing and pulse, reassessing the patient’s overall status, and getting ready to transition to post-resuscitation care. This includes ensuring the airway and breathing are supported, maintaining oxygenation, continuing vigilant monitoring, and arranging definitive care at an appropriate facility.

Choosing to keep performing CPR without first confirming ROSC or failing to monitor and reassess wouldn’t reflect the change in the patient’s status. Likewise, increasing ventilation rate to an arbitrary 20 breaths per minute isn’t a standard step after ROSC; ventilation should be guided by the patient’s needs and stability.
